Porcelain veneers are non-orthodontic treatment options for correcting discoloured or crooked, misaligned teeth. They are also used to correct unsightly gaps between the teeth, gummy smiles and short or small teeth.
These thin, teeth coloured porcelain shells are custom made and bonded to the front surface of the teeth. The teeth receiving veneers must be intact or minimally filled so that the underlying tooth enamel can support the porcelain shells.
Unlike traditional metal-based crowns, porcelain crowns are totally made of porcelain. These crowns can be made to look lifelike to match the appearance of the surrounding teeth (in terms of texture, colour and translucency) unlike metal-based crowns which are notorious for their dull, lifeless look. Once in place, porcelain crowns are usually not noticeable.
